Snow, snow and more snow

How crazy is it here???? The snow piles are so big you can't even see oncoming traffic at an intersection. Where is the new stuff going???? So yesterday morn we got another 6 inches or so and by mid afternoon it was pouring rain and continued for at least 6 hours!!!! The sewer drains are blocked so it all puddles in the streets and you feel like a speed boat skimming the water!!! I think it washed away the new snow but did nothing to reduce the piles already stacked up. To their credit, the plowing trucks are always on the move to keep the roads open and sanded, or salted. More snow here in two months that for a normal winter season which still has at least 2 months to go. But today the sun is out and except for sloshing thru the melted ice we're good to go.

We're still amazed at the frequency of cancelling school and church here. This last storm was to come Tuesday night-Wednesday, which it did. On Monday, the word was out that stake meetings were cancelled Wednesday, Seminary cancelled for that morning, all activities cancelled Wednesday night and Tuesday's news had all the school cancellations. Weather predictions here always seem to be right on as opposed to Salt Lake, where on a moments notice, a storm goes somewhere else or is delayed 12 hours. But not here. If the soothsayers say a storm is coming, you better believe it!!!! The roads are definately dangerous, expecially outside of Boston where every little borough has only 2 lane roads and we've been places where it's only 1 1/2 lanes!!! Snow build up on either side cuts it down. Homes are set so far back from the street that long, steep driveways are totally inaccessable. One stake here covers 90 miles from one end to the other so it's really understandable, but takes a lot of getting used to......we always have church in Salt Lake-----

Our fearless leader from New York is here this week and after some advice and teaching from him we are about to embark on a routine that will keep us VERY busy. We have to meet with the Stake President over the Employment in the region first but it looks like we're going to establish a mobile office. We already have it....but this will take us to three different spots each week to have a place where people needing help can come. It'll be in various ward houses around the region so we'll really be on the move and we'll have regular office hours. We've already scheduled career workshops for the first/second Saturday of every month and we may be doing a self-employment workshop one Saturday each month. The employment couple in the New York office have additional callings in their ward----specifically to set up Scout troops, which limits their ability to travel; so we are going with Bro Doria to Syracuse, NY on Feb. 28 to teach a career workshop. I think our car has a protective shield around it as it is working so well and the tires still look almost new even after 12,000 miles we driven since September. That does NOT include my running into posts and shattering the back window.....

No new pictures to post this time...most of you have seen enough snow....but since this is our journal of what we're doing here, I have to write!!!!

OH, we had a BYU Management team meeting Tuesday night. Of course we had another connection. A guy from New Hampshire was there and he used to live on Market Street in West Valley and was in the 11th ward-----for the info of my kids. He's Scott's age but moved when he was in 6th grade. In our Senior Missy training get together on Saturday we discovered that all but 3 couples are from Utah---most from the Salt Lake area...Sandy,Layton, Bountiful, North Salt Lake, Draper....it's a small world.
