Frustration..........

....is the name of the game. I had almost finished a new entry last night when my screen went blank and it didn't save. I keep getting an error message saying it can't save my draft!!! Ticks me off!!!
I had titled it with this (if you remember the Kingston Trio song)

Let me tell you of the story of a man named Charlie,
Went to ride on the MTA.
When he got there the conductor told him one more nickel,
Charlie couldn't get off of that train....
Did he ever return? NO, he never returned
And his fate is still unlearned.
He may ride forever neath the streets of Boston
He's the man who never returned.........

.That could have been us yesterday as we were riding "neath the streets of Boston" on the red and green line MBTA, as it is now known. The sun was out and it was a balmy 30 degrees so we drove down to a station outside Boston and spent more than Charlie ever did and rode our way to the Prudential Tower. The internet told us to get off at the South Station, which we did, and the Tower was supposed to be a 3 minute walk. I'm going to have a word with that internet. We walked more than a mile past China Town, thru the Boston Common, thru the Boston Garden, up Newbury street with all it's high end shops, thru the Back Bay and FINALLY we arrived at the tower. We got our exercise that day!!!
First of all, you need to see the family of pidgeons roosting on their poopy rail on the upper deck of the parking garage where we got on the T.
Then there's a statue in Boston Common that you can only see in the winter when the leaves can't hide it!!
At the end of the common (we've gone at least a mile now) is the statue of George Washington with the skyline behind it. (we're getting a little cold now)
Then it's on to Newbury Street for shopping if you have a purseload of credit cards. As always there is a Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts stuck in. There were some REALLY old stone churchs and it was interesting that when they built the adjoining buildings, they made the outside church wall their own wall!! Everything was hooked together!


This nail place doesn't look particularly upscale but it's right across the street from the other shops and right next door to Lord and Taylor.No doubt people live in the apartments on the third floor. High rent.
! So we finally arrive at the door of the Prudential Tower and make our way to the50th floor.....no we didn't walk!!!! But our walk to the elevatos took us inside to a sparkling white mall that was much like the big malls in the hotels in Vegas. Like a city in itself. The 50th floor is all windows around so you can see the whole city (except for when the sun is shining right in your eyes and you can't see that direction. That's why I was so ticked we spent all that time walking. Gave the sun a chance to be low in the west). Now you just have to suffer through most of the pictures I took. Sorry........
This looks to the east where you can see the Dorchester Harbor and the big white building on the waters edge up toward the top is the JFK Library. Below you can see Logan Airport sticking out into the harbor. Don't ever land there--go to Providence or Manchester.
I call this picture to the left "Love Thy Neighbor". It's a good example of all of downtown Boston where the living is expensive, several stories high, no place to park (most people don't have cars), and so many people crammed into as little space as possible. This area is called the Back Bay.
These two similar pictures are of the Back Bay and its crowded buildings looking over the Charles River, which happens to still be frozen-----but don't walk on it or you'll fall through!! Where all those apartments are was once a swamp that the government decided to fill in and build on it. Actually, it's the only area in all of Boston and surrounding towns that has straight roads!! It's a miracle! Cross streets are straight too. BUT I don't want to be in the area during an earthquake and be swallowed up by the swamp!

This is a little bit closer view. The two white domes in the center of the picture near the water is the Museum of Science, the cluster of big buildings on the right side of the bridge is Mass General Hospital---another city in itself. Right above those buildings is a replica of the Washington Monument on Bunker Hill.
Get your magnifying glass out. In the picture to the left, find the twin building to the left of center. Just left of that you'll see the "Z" bridge. The wires holding it look like a tent. It's the largest suspension bridge ummmmmmm--we forgot where. But it's certainly the largest HERE!!
Now, go to the right just before you see the large building with the white side you'll see the steeple of the Old North Church. Now, move your eyeballs down and to the rights where the line of trees are. That's the Boston Common there.

This is Fenway Park---home of the Boston Red Sox. You can see it's in the middle of all sorts of stuff!! You can hardly get to it much less find a place to park!
Here's a closer look at Fenway with snow still on the lower bowl. They say it's impossible to get a good seat at the games because people have handed down their season tickets for years--keeping them in the family!
This is the Harvard Bridge from the Back Bay across the frozen Charles river but it actually goes to MIT. To the right of the bridge there's a big white dome and that's the center of MIT. And all that on the left of the bridge is Cambridge.


Look down to the red peak--that's Trinity Church on Copley Square. Why? I don't know the importance of that...yet.
