Concord

Welllll, we had to get out of this apartment for some fresh air so we zipped over to Concord, which is right next to Acton. Of course all of you have heard of the midnight ride of PaulRevere and the battle of the British and Colonists at Lexington/Concord. Well, here we are!!!!



First of all is our town library. It's been remodeled twice but stillo maintains the colonial look.




This looking down the main street in downtown Concord--the historical district. Every town here has a historical district.


Here are some store fronts on the street--all of them maintain the colonial look both inside and out.


This alleyway leads to a side door to the restaurant where we ate lunch. Next is the front. They made wonderful sandwiches all over the area.

On the Concord Center there are memorials to all locals who have died in wars. Actually the first person to die in the Lexington/Concord battle was from Acton so there's a big memorial to him here in Acton.






This is just one of the old houses on the common. These "commons" are really quite death defying!! They're sort of like rotaries---where you play the game of chicken trying to get into the flow of traffic going round the circle, they trying to get off one of the spokes to get where you want to go. In the meantime, there are cars flying by on every side of you just daring you to try and get to the outside of the rotary. Concord Common, on the other hand is more like a triangle with streets that go every which way, one way and back again. It's a mystery to me......

Now, for all your history buffs-----coming up is the Louisa May Alcott home and then just off Concord Common is the Old North Bridge and the site of the battle.
